Throughout high school, Angela spent her days volunteering at the hospital in anticipation of a career in medicine.  It was there that she discovered the positive impact that magic can have on people who are going through difficult life events.  As she shared her magic with the hospital patients, she began to feel driven by the real changes that this unique art form could potentially bring about in the world.

During her first year of premed studies, Angela began working to develop an organized outreach effort that integrated the fields of both magic and medicine.  She sought help from surgical oncologist Dr. Bruce Averbook, president of the Cleveland chapter of the International Brotherhood of Magicians.  Dr. Averbook put Angela into contact with counselors at The Gathering Place, a caring community for families touched by cancer.   Soon after, Seraphim One Outreach was born, and local magicians began coming together to help and support families dealing with the difficult effects of cancer.

Angela has since become a student of NEOUCOM, and she continues to strive for more effective workshops by drawing from her experiences as both a performer and a medical student.  Today, magicians volunteer their talents to entertain and inspire through performance, while also empowering others by teaching simple magic effects.  The effects learned during the workshops metaphorically represent prevalent themes associated with cancer treatment and recovery, issues that are often difficult for parents to discuss with their children.  Watching and learning magic creates a friendly atmosphere, supporting enhanced communication and discussion of these issues among all family members.

What started as one girl trying to bring happiness and warmth to the hospital atmosphere is currently a dedicated, fun, and growing outreach effort.  If you would like more information on how to become a part of Seraphim One Outreach, please contact Angela directly at angelafunovits@gmail.com.
